I want to try to use the resin which one I choose?

First of all we must ask ourselves: "What do I want to achieve?" There are many different resins on the market that can satisfy the most varied hobby needs. What do you want to create?

The most widespread and versatile resin is the two-component transparent epoxy resin Magic Cristal. It does not have a particular smell and is suitable for being colored. The complete drying time ranges from 12 to 48 hours depending on the brand and the outside temperature.

Then there are the UV resins, tendentially more expensive and formed only by a component that hardens by putting it in direct sunlight (20/30 minutes) or under a UV lamp (the one for the manicure). The fundamental difference is that these resins have an easy workability on the layers, but they are a little less self-leveling than the previous ones and therefore they are a little more complicated to use.

Finally there are polyurethane resins (Easy-Make & Easy-Make Grey), which differ from epoxies as they have a very quick workability and drying, but, as against, they have an odor that can often be strong and pungent. They are used mostly in model making and prototyping.

All these resins can be colored, but for the coloring you should open a separate chapter. You can start experimenting with non-specific dyes that if not used properly modify the properties of the resins making them much more fragile or modifying the catalysis, for this you will find that to obtain faithful and lasting results over time the specific dyes for resin will be fundamental .

The resin can be used for many projects: creating charms, making cabochons or furnishing objects, covering projects of other materials to give it a glossy and domed effect, incorporating objects (flowers, leaves, stickers, etc.), creations of prototypes and modeling. Once you have chosen the project and the suitable resin you will need to equip some basic tools: protective gloves, containers to mix the resin and any dyes or glitter, charms / projects to be covered, molds or silicon rubber to make one.

And now you are ready to start.

In the next article you will see the creation of a project, from beginning to end.

Let us know what you would like most!
