Rubber+ V is a RTV-2 silicone putty rubber that cross-links at room temperature after mixing with the relative hardener. The rubber obtained faithfully reproduces the original model. It has a high resistance to atmospheric agents and aging, moreover, it is thermostable.
Given its good mechanical properties, it is recommended for making elastic molds in the artistic foundry. It is used for the production of molds of vertical or large objects (eg statues) or of immovable objects that require a mold.
Before applying the rubber it is recommended to clean the sample very well from any dust or dirt. If the matrix is made of glass, ceramic, porous or particularly fragile material, it is possible for the rubber to adhere. In these cases, a preventive application of a release agent (Polidemold or Demolder 400S) is strongly recommended.
Before applying the silicone filler it is recommended to apply a thin layer of liquid silicone rubber for casting (Rubber + or Angry Rubber) to the model (cleaned and degreased) and wait for a thin film to form.
For the application it is necessary to add 5% of catalyst on the weight of the rubber. Proceed to knead manually until a homogeneous color is obtained.
Apply the mass obtained directly on the model to be copied, forming a thin layer of about 8-15mm. To obtain greater thicknesses it will be necessary to repeat the operation after about 2-4 hours. It is recommended to work small masses at a time (about 300/600 grams).
The curing times are influenced by temperature and humidity. The best conditions for rubber curing are 23 ° C and 50% relative humidity. We remind you that high temperature and / or relative humidity levels accelerate the catalysis by reducing the workability time and the setting time. Vice versa, particularly low temperature and humidity levels lengthen the drying and workability times of the product.
Increasing the quantity of catalyst from 5% to 6-7% will accelerate the polymerization, but will create greater shrinkage.
Use at temperatures below 20 ° C is not recommended as the final characteristics of the product will be lost. To avoid greater linear shrinkage, do not exceed the temperature of 35-40 ° C.
Once the setting time has elapsed, it will be possible to unmold the model and proceed with the reproduction, however, it is advisable to wait 24 hours before unmolding. The final characteristics of the vulcanized rubber will be reached after 3 days from complete hardening.
